Lesson 6: Mission & the Kingdom – Living Sent

Theme: Living with purpose as a disciple-maker
Key Verse: “As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you.” John 20:21

The call to follow Jesus always ends with a call to be sent. From the moment you begin walking with Him, you’re part of something much bigger than yourself, the advancement of His Kingdom. Christianity is not a retreat from the world. It’s a mission into it. Jesus didn’t save us to keep us safe in a spiritual bubble; He saved us so that, through us, others would come to know Him.

After His resurrection, Jesus looked into the eyes of His disciples and said, “As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you.” (John 20:21) That was not a poetic goodbye, it was a personal commissioning. Jesus was saying, “Your life is now part of My mission.”

To live “sent” means to see yourself as God’s representative, in your home, your workplace, your neighborhood, and wherever He leads. It doesn’t mean you need to
stand on a street corner or fly across the ocean. It means you approach every day with Kingdom intention. You see your coworkers not just as colleagues, but as people God loves. You see your city not just as where you live, but as a mission field.

Living on mission doesn’t require you to quit your job or move overseas, unless God calls you to. Most of the time, it means doing ordinary things with extraordinary purpose. It means offering to pray for someone in crisis, inviting a neighbor for dinner, or listening deeply to someone who feels invisible. It means walking slowly enough to notice where God is already at work.

The good news is that you’re not sent alone. Jesus promises His presence and power. In Acts 1:8, He says, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses…” The Holy Spirit is your guide, your boldness, and your source of life.

So now the question becomes: Will you live as someone sent by God? The same Jesus who said, “Follow Me,” now says, “Go for Me.” The disciple becomes the ambassador. Your life, with all its imperfections, becomes a vessel for God’s presence in the world.

Key Takeaways:
– Disciples aren’t just saved — they’re sent.
– Everyday life is your mission field.
– The Holy Spirit empowers you to live boldly and intentionally.
